Dior Lowhorn, former Bay Area Prep Player of the Year, Signs Scholarship Papers to Play at USF

University of San Francisco head basketball coach Jessie Evans today announced that former Bay Area Prep Player of the Year Dior Lowhorn has signed a scholarship agreement to play basketball at USF.
The 6-7 forward who previously starred at Berkeley High School played as a freshman last season at Texas Tech.
"We are thrilled that Dior has decided to play here at USF," said Evans. "As we have stated many times, it is our goal to have the Bay Area's best play here at the Hilltop. Dior was the consensus top player in the Bay Area at Berkeley. But we would be thrilled to have Dior no matter if he was local or not, he is a quality player and person. Dior is an electrifying player who fits into our system and can really run the floor and rebound."
As a transfer, Lowhorn must redshirt the 2006-07 season before he is eligible to play for the Dons in 2007-08.
Lowhorn played in all 32 games as a freshman at Texas Tech averaging 7.2 points and 3.9 rebounds, and started 10 contests, including the Red Raiders two Big-12 tournament contests. He shot a team best 51.4% from the floor and also led the team with 27 blocked shots. His 230 points was the third best total on the squad.
One of his best games at Tech was ironically a career high 20 points against USF in the Northwestern Mutual Shootout at War Memorial Gymnasium, a game won handily by the Dons 90-78 on December 3rd.
As a senior at Berkeley High, Lowhorn was a dominant force, averaging 26.9 points and 12.7 rebounds in leading the team to their first section title win in 27 years. Dior was named Bay Area Prep Player of the Year by both the San Francisco Chronicle in 2004-05 and was previously named Alameda Newspaper Group Player of the Year.

Alan Wiggins, Jr Wins Two Awards, Including Co-MVP at USF Basketball Banquet

USF odds junior center Alan Wiggins, Jr (San Diego, Calif.) received the Fr. William Dunne Award as team Most Valuable Player and also the Top Defensive Player Award at the Annual Dons' Men's Basketball Award Dinner that was held at the Carnelian Room Friday evening in San Francisco.
Wiggins shared the Dunne Award as MVP with Armondo Surratt, who was previously honored by the West Coast Conference as "Newcomer of the Year" and was named first team all-league.
Wiggins led the West Coast Conference in blocked shots at 2.1 per game, was 12th in scoring (14.1), third in rebounding (8.3), third in field goal percentage (52.7%) and third in double-doubles.
Surratt led the West Coast Conference in assists (5.2 per game) and was ranked fourth in steals (1.8) and eleventh in scoring (14.2) in the conference
The prestigious "Art Zief, Jr. Most Inspirational Player Award" was presented to junior guard Michael Bell.
Senior Jerome Gumbs was presented with the "Sixth Man Club Team Captain Award" for team leadership, Sophomore Danny Cavic won the "Bob Giron Coaches' Award" for toughness and playing the game hard, and senior center Jason Wallace-Carter was named "Most Improved."
